Getting Started

What is a haiku?

A haiku is a traditional Japanese poem with three lines following a 5-7-5 syllable pattern:

Cherry blossoms fall (5)
Gentle breeze carries petals (7)
Spring's fleeting beauty (5)

How do I create my first haiku?

  1. 1. Sign up for a Haikume account
  2. 2. Click the compose button on your dashboard
  3. 3. Write your haiku following the 5-7-5 syllable pattern
  4. 4. Add an optional link or reference note
  5. 5. Share it with the community!

Creating your profile

Visit your profile page to add a display name and bio. Your username and any haiku you post will be visible to other users. You can control the privacy of your bookmarks in your settings.

Platform Features

Likes

Show appreciation for haiku by clicking the heart icon. Your likes help surface quality content to other users.

Comments

Engage with other poets by leaving thoughtful comments on their haiku. Comments should also follow the haiku format when possible.

Bookmarks

Save haiku you want to revisit later with bookmarks. You can make your bookmarks public or keep them private in your settings.

Collections

Curate themed collections of haiku from any user on the platform. Give your collections descriptive names and decide whether to make them public or private.

Privacy Controls

  • Bookmark Privacy: Choose whether others can see your bookmarked haiku
  • Collection Privacy: Make collections public to share with the community or keep them private
  • Account Settings: Manage your display name and account preferences

Account Management

You can update your account settings, change your password, or delete your account entirely from the settings page. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Community Guidelines

  • Respect others: Be kind and constructive in your interactions
  • Original content: Only post haiku that you have written
  • Appropriate content: Keep your haiku family-friendly and appropriate
  • No spam: Don't post repetitive or promotional content
  • Follow the format: Try to follow the traditional 5-7-5 syllable structure

Troubleshooting

My haiku won't post

Make sure your haiku:

  • • Follows the 5-7-5 syllable pattern
  • • Contains appropriate content
  • • Isn't too long (under 1000 characters total)

I can't sign in

Check that you're using the correct email and password. If you've forgotten your password, contact us for assistance. Make sure you're not being rate-limited due to too many attempts.
